- 4 Days in Athens: Food, Drink, Acropolis, History and Places to Explore
We hit the road again, I came to Athens again. Before we started our adventure in this magical city, we loved our house here and quickly settled into our rooms. Our first stop was Brettos, Athens' most famous and most instagrammed place, which has been making its own ouzo, brandy and liqueurs since 1909. It fascinated us with its atmosphere and delicious drinks. Then we went to Elaia Restaurant right under the Acropolis and had dinner with this magnificent view. Our second day in Athens started at the beach! We went to Edem Beach, just 10 minutes away, and fought the waves and collected rocks from the sea. For dinner, we stopped by the traditional Taverna Ta in the Plaka area and enjoyed delicious Greek food. Our third day was pretty busy. Our first stop was Boo Cocktail Bar, one of my favorite cocktail bars in Athens. We loved the bohemian atmosphere. Visiting the Acropolis was also a must. We reached here by crossing the narrow roads and hills. The entrance fee may be 20€, but you shouldn't consider Athens as complete without experiencing it! After the Acropolis, we went to Fine Mess for dinner. This restaurant is in a great location and the food is both delicious and affordable. Finally, we finished the day at Ciel, a magnificent terrace. The service staff here was very attentive and the view was amazing. This is where we ended our beautiful day in Athens. Our fourth day started with shopping. We visited the souvenir shops and shopped for souvenirs. For our lunch break, we stopped by Kosmikon Restaurant, which we always passed by and wanted to sit in. After dinner, we continued exploring and took a break at Style Cafe, a cute cafe. And finally, this special day was Funda's birthday! We made a reservation for dinner at The Spid Restaurant. Here we enjoyed delicious food and celebrated Funda's special day with great enthusiasm. These 4 days we spent in Athens were the perfect time to discover this magical city that combines history in a wonderful way. As we set sail for new adventures and discoveries, the beauties of Athens will always live in our memories. - Meis Island: Kastellorizo The Colourful Paradise and Hidden Beauties of the Mediterranean
Meis Island stands out as a lovely paradise in the Mediterranean. It offers an unforgettable experience with its colorful houses lined up along the coast, narrow streets, attractive bazaar, pleasant cafes and fishermen. This island is located at the farthest point from mainland Greece and is located just opposite the Kaş district of Antalya. Meis is a corner of paradise with its natural beauty, warm atmosphere, delicious Mediterranean cuisine, caves to explore and unique beaches, which you can reach with just a 20-minute ferry ride. During the summer months, the population of Meis swells to 500 people, but during the winter months, locals return to mainland Greek cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki. Unlike other Greek islands, Meis has a multicultural architecture due to its geographical location; it is possible to see Italian, Ottoman and Greek influences together. The most well-known attraction of the island is the Blue Cave, and it should definitely be seen by visitors to the island. This cave, which can be reached by a 40-minute boat ride from the island center for 3-4 people, is a natural beauty worth seeing. The round trip boat fee is 10-15€. On Meis Island, you can stop by the restaurants around the port or visit the museum built in the 18th century and now used as an ethnographic museum. There are also places worth seeing such as St. George Beach and the Aya Savvas Church with its magnificent view. Meis Island is a piece of land in the easternmost part of Greece, part of the archipelago called Dodecanese and is only 2.1 km away from the Kaş district of Antalya. Kastellorizo, known throughout history as Kızılhisar, was named after the Knights of St. Jean. During the Ottoman Empire, the island was called Chateau Roux (Red Castle) due to its reddish cliffs visible from afar. The island, which was part of the Ottoman Empire until 1915, was occupied by the French, Italians and British during World War I and was transferred to Greece with the 1947 Paris Treaty. Meis Island is currently part of Rhodes and the only settlement on the island, Megisti, is an important source of income from sponge diving. Meis is the closest Greek island to Turkey and is known for its fresh food, old Italian-style houses and hospitable people. Meis can be reached from the east coast and since 2007 there have been daily ferry and plane services from Meis to Rhodes. Although the official language in Meis is Greek, English and Turkish are also spoken. The Euro is used in Greece. Meis is in the same time zone as Türkiye and has a population of only 400 people. To go to Meis, you need a Green Passport and a Schengen visa. You can reach Meis Island in 20 minutes by ferry from Kaş district of Antalya, which departs every day at 09:00 during the summer season. The return is at 16:30 on the same day. There are also additional trips on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the summer season.
- A Quiet Paradise: Halki (Chalki) Island
An Island Community as Beautiful as a Fairytale on the Hillside of Rhodes Sometimes you want to escape the chaos of big cities and spend time in a quiet place surrounded by nature. Halki Island, which I discovered after Meis, is exactly such a place; it was a place I discovered for the precious moments I was in and felt peace in every second. This small island, located right next to Rhodes, has not yet been flooded with tourists and has managed to preserve its natural beauty. One Day, One Life The moment I first stepped into Halki after an hour's drive from Rhodes, I felt a strange sense of peace inside me. Walking through the streets, seeing the colorful doors and balconies decorated with colorful flowers and bougainvillea, and meeting the friendly and sincere people surrounded my soul like a painting. And believe me, I was in a fairy tale that I never wanted to end and I didn't want to wake up... I was impatient to discover the island at first, I wanted to discover this magical atmosphere as soon as possible and trace every paving stone. I quickly settled into the house I had rented and started my first tour of the island, passing through the labyrinthine backstreets and seeing that all the roads led to the sea. Then of course it was time to swim in the most beautiful shade of that clear blue sea. I went to Pontamos Beach which is a 10 minute walk away on the back side of the island. You know, there are some places where the water is so clear that it looks like a part of the sky. The sea of the beach he enjoyed in Halki was exactly like that. Here you feel as natural and a part of nature as possible, no one comes and bothers you! You can spread your towel wherever you want, sunbathe and enjoy the sea and the sun to the fullest. That's exactly what I did, I went into the sea beautifully, laid out my towel under a tree and enjoyed the sun, the sea and just being there. Flavors of the Evening and Greek Dance Rhythms After the beach, I changed my clothes and sat down to have a snack, watch the sunset and have a nice rest. As it was time to look for a place to eat for dinner, I took a look at the restaurants along the island's coast that were opening their new tables. But there was one that I said, this is exactly where I want to be and I reserved a nice table for the evening at the Black Sea Restaurant ... As I booked my table and continued to tour, I was carried away by the rhythm of the music. A stage was being set up right in the middle of the island, I said to myself, "You are very lucky Onur, there will be a party tonight!" After wandering around for a while, taking some photos and videos, it was almost time for dinner... As a Black Sea person, I sat at my table at this place that caught my eye, ordered Greek salad, grilled sardines and polomari ouzo, and started chatting with the restaurant owner. When I asked why it was called Black Sea, I learned that their ancestors were from the Black Sea, Georgia, in other words, I had found my fellow countryman and my Laz fellow countryman. I was struck by this place both because of its name and because it was exactly the tavern decor I was looking for… Especially when I saw the hanging octopuses, I said yes, this is the place I have to eat. Anyway, I stopped by to make a reservation beforehand; after all, I was alone and wanted to sit at a good table. After a nice conversation, I reserved my table for the evening. Oh, the deliciousness! The Greek salad I had here was really amazing and made with local herbs, and the sardine appetizers left an unforgettable taste on my palate. Let the Dance Begin. After dinner, I went to a bar right there to join the music and dance show held in the square. The friendliness of the local people and my ability to adapt to all conditions combined with the music made me feel like a part of the island, so I took off my slippers and threw myself on the stage. I danced and had fun for hours. In fact, I had so much fun that I even had many people buy me drinks at the end of the night :) Parting Is Hard But... The next morning it was time to leave Halki and as always I was regretting why I didn't stay longer! After Meis (Kastellorizo), my favorite island was Halki. I thought I had a connection here too! Why not? I shared everything about the island on my Instagram page, and the highlights include real images of the moments you are trying to describe here. Follow me on Instagram ( @Onurollstyle ) and experience these moments through my eyes. If you happen to be in Rhodes, I recommend you definitely visit this island right next to it. If you want to escape from a busy pace and do yourself a favor, Halki will be waiting for you there. How to Get There? To reach Halki Island, you first need to go to Rhodes. There are trips from Marmaris or Fethiye to Rhodes, this time I went to Rhodes via Meis and from there to Halki. My round trip transportation by ferry costs 21 euros. The ferry ride takes about 1 hour. Where to Stay? There are small and cute houses to stay in Halki. I stayed at Atlantis Houses, which I found on booking.com , and paid 71 euros for one night. This accommodation was one of the places that made you feel the texture of the island in the best way. It was a pleasant experience on the island with its 5-minute proximity to the center and its warm atmosphere.
